Duties and Responsibilities of A Protection Officer
Patrol commercial, industrial and residential properties, working closely with the community and other public safety agencies to proactively preserve the peace and promote public safety.
Respond to calls for service within the designated beat, sector or precinct.
First Responder to most emergency situations.
Accurately document activities in written reports and statements, and provide court testimony.
Investigate crimes such as burglary, robbery, assault, vandalism, domestic disputes, and disturbing the peace.
Minimum Qualifications for Protection Officers
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid State of California driver's license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Must not have any misdemeanor or felony convictions.
- Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends,
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be in generally good health and be psychologically fit.
- Must submit to a thorough background investigation.(This is in addition to the BSIS background)
- Must have 832PC certificate or be able to obtain the certificate prior to completion of probation.
- Must have American Heart Association CPR / AED Certificate or be able to obtain the certificate prior to completion of probation.
- Must have BSIS Firearm Permit.
- Must have BSIS Baton Permit.
- Must have BSIS Tear Gas Permit.
- Must have completed the 40 hours of basic required BSIS training.
- Must complete 160 hours of in house training.
Duties and Responsibilties of a Security Guard or Officer
Minimum Qualifications for a Security Guard or Officer
Be at least 18 years old
Undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and
Complete a 40 hour course of required training. The training and exam may be administered by any private patrol operator or by a certified training facility.
